I run, I craft, I write, and I make your favorite clothes.

I have written books about sewing for children and adults and I'm the indie designer’s patternmaking secret weapon. I've taught video and in-person classes to anyone who would listen since 2008. I believe that sewing clothes is a radical act of self-love that increases your sense of self-worth. I'm basically your sewing fairy godmother.

Skillshare? Yes, Please.

I love small craft.  I love their entire philosophy.

I love the pay-as-you-wish lemonade stand their kids set up last month.

I love the magical feeling of kindness and community generated in their monthy skillshare events that floats me out on a cloud of crafty love every time I reluctantly leave the Trumbullplex..

I love Amy’s homebaked vegan goodies and that Ethan made me a present  the time I couldn’t go.

I love being present in the City I love.

And I love sharing crafty time with the pros and the craft-curious, the kids and the friends…so this Saturday, I’m on tap for the skillsharing.  It’s no secret that I love Alabama Chanin, all of Natialie‘s books, and her amazing, open-source open-heart goodness.

There’s not much I enjoy more than some hand-stitched details; the process is as fun as the outcome, when done in community.  Come down to the Trumbullplex for this weekend’s  skillshare, where I’ll show you how to make a cuff (or headband) using your cast-off t-shirts, embroidery floss, and a little imagination.  I will also have kits available to purchase, complete with needle, thread, and organic cotton jersey if you don’t want to bring your own.

If you’re heading to Detroit this weekend stop by the Trumbullplex for some handcrafting time – you can even make a wrist cuff in support of your favorite Dally in the Alley band playing later in the day.

September’s Skillshare is sure to be another fun afternoon of making and friends! Karen from One Girl Circus will be leading this month’s Skillshare: Hand Stitched Accessories
Make yourself a wrist cuff or a headband while learning to stitch desgns and embellishments on knit fabrics. Stitch your own design or choose one of the templates provided. Once you’ve learned the techniques in this workshop, you’ll be able to upcycle your favorite t-shirts into accessories, or mend-by-decoration the t-shirts you can’t bear to give up!
Materials Kit provided for $8 (OR bring your own jersey knit fabrics/old t-shirt, sewing needle, and button/craft or multiwork thread) Skillshare begins at 3:00.
